Applying for an Auto Loan

Step 1

Gather Your Information

When applying for preapproval, you’ll generally need:

• Contact information for all applicants
• Current housing information
• Employment and income information
• Approximate amount your expect to finance
• Your desired loan term

Don’t know exactly what vehicle you want yet? That’s ok. An estimate is enough to get started.

If you’ve already picked out the vehicle you wish to buy, we’ll also need:

• the 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
• the state where you’ll register the vehicle
• the exact mileage
• the dealer or seller’s name

Step 2

Submit Your Application

Apply online or give us a call.

After your submit your application, a United Trades FCU representative will contact you regarding the status of your request. Most loan decisions are made next day.

**Note: there are a lot of scams out there, so please be skeptical of requests appearing to come from United Trades FCU about loan requests.**

Once approved, you’ll know how much you qualify for before you begin shopping.

Step 3

Shop for Your Vehicle

With your preapproval in hand, you’re ready to start shopping.

You can purchase from a dealership, private party seller, or online vehicle marketplace. Knowing your budget ahead of time makes shopping easier and helps your negotiate confidently.

Step 4

Finalize Your Financing

Once you’ve found the vehicle you’d like to purchase, contact United Trades FCU with the vehicle details.

We’ll review the information, finalize your loan documents, and provide instructions for completing the purchase.

In many cases, funds can be provided by check, mailed directly, or delivered electronically.

Step 5

Complete the Purchase

Use your loan proceeds to purchase the vehicle from the seller.

Step 6

Submit Title Documentation

After purchasing your vehicle, ensure the title and any required ownership documents are provided to United Trades FCU within the required timeframe so we can properly perfect our lien.
